Ritual FAQ
Finishing-Ritual Questions Answered
Short, practical answers drawn from the four guides. Where a question touches skin health, we point you to a professional rather than guessing.
Coordination and finish
Do I need new products to coordinate makeup with accessories?
Usually not. Choose a finish and a metal or fabric tone you already own, then let either the face or one accessory lead. See accessory roles.
Should my jewellery metal match my makeup?
It does not have to match, but sharing one quality — warmth or sheen — makes a look feel intentional. Mixing metals works best when one tone clearly dominates.
Which finish lasts longest?
Thin, layered satin or matte finishes tend to wear most evenly over long days; technique matters as much as formula. See makeup moods.
Kit and travel
How many products should a daily kit contain?
There is no fixed number. A useful test is whether each item has been used in the last two weeks and has no near-duplicate.
Can I take my makeup kit in hand luggage?
Yes, but liquids, creams and gels are often limited to 100 ml containers in a one-litre bag in the UK and EU, or the 3-1-1 rule in the US. Check your departure airport's current rules.
Care and upkeep
How often should makeup brushes be washed?
A common starting point is weekly for cream and liquid brushes, every two weeks for powder brushes, and after each use for damp sponges.
What does the open-jar symbol mean?
It is the period-after-opening symbol, showing in months how long a product is intended to be used after opening, under EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
How do I stop silver jewellery tarnishing?
Store it in a closed pouch or box, ideally with an anti-tarnish strip, and wipe it after wear. Tarnish is a reaction with sulphur in the air.
Should I put on jewellery before or after makeup?
After. Apply makeup and fragrance first, then jewellery and scarves, to keep pigment and oils off delicate materials.
